"Thriller with a touch of psychosis" Gezien in: Euroscoop Maastricht, Maastricht d.d. 25-2-2010 Scorsese's touch simply saves this film. Even then, the direction is sometimes choppy and languid. All the same, this is a quality thriller, based upon the book by Dennis Lehane.
Decaprio plays a marshal sent to a high security mental institution to find a missing patient. Or does he?
Lots written elsewhere about the lightweight nature of Decaprio's performance in this film - however, especially given the final outcome, I thought that his delivery was just about right. Slightly fragile, yet strong, determined and at times even amusing.
Some of the supporting cast were irritating (the head of the guards for example), but Ben Kingsley was simply perfect. Fluid, graceful - one of his best.
Great twists to the story, and some impressive sequences of drama and classic cinematography.
Well worth seeing. |
