Na Peter Sellers’ dood in 1980 maakte Edwards op basis van restmateriaal van The Pink Panther Strikes Again deze film. Fanatieke Sellers/Clouseau-aficionados beschuldigen hem van 'cinematografische grafschennis'.
Om Sellers dood te maskeren, verdwijnt inspecteur Clouseau halverwege de film spoorloos.
