In Photophobia verstoppen de 12-jarige Niki en de 11-jarige Vika zich voor de angstaanjagende oorlog in een metrostation in Charkov. Daglicht staat synoniem voor levensgevaar. Ze leven onder de constante gloed van neonlichten. Ze mogen niet weg, maar verlangen naar de zon.
