Britse critici: 'Elle' beste niet-Engelstalige film
De film Elle van de Nederlands/Amerikaanse regisseur Paul Verhoeven heeft de onderscheiding voor 'Foreign Language Film of the Year' gewonnen tijdens de London Critics' Circle Film Awards. De grote winnaar van de avond was Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

De awardshow is een initiatief van The Critics' Circle, een organisatie van meer dan 120 Britse filmcritici. Elle gaat over een zakenvrouw, gespeeld door Isabelle Huppert, die in haar eigen huis door een onbekende man wordt verkracht. Ze besluit zelf achter de verkrachter aan te gaan. Three Billboards De grote winnaar van de London Critics' Circle Film Awards is Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, die eenzelfde soort thema heeft als Elle. Deze film van regisseur Martin McDonagh gaat over een alleenstaande moeder (Frances McDormand) die de plaatselijke politie via boodschappen op drie gigantische billboards aanspoort om de moord en verkrachting van haar dochter op te lossen. De tragikomedie won een prijs voor 'Film of the Year', 'Actress of the Year' voor Frances McDormand en 'Screenwriter of the Year' for McDonagh, die ook het script schreef.
